West Africa has taken the lead from Southern Africa as the region of highest growth, mainly due to the high levels of market penetration in Southern Africa. South Africa now contributes 94% of total connections in Southern Africa with a staggering market penetration of 80%.

With access to mobile services soaring, increased competition in the mobile telecoms industry and ever-decreasing costs of communications, the African landscape is fast-becoming a hotbed for cutting-edge mobile service delivery. One can only hope that the private and public sector will take advantage of these factors in improving service delivery.
